Mini Sudoku 4×4

The 4×4 sudoku is the simplest version of the classic. The grid is made of 16 cells split into four 2×2 boxes, and is played with the numbers 1 to 4. The rules are the same as the 9×9 but at a smaller scale: each number must appear exactly once in every row, column and box.

When to play it

This variant is ideal for:

  • Getting started — a few minutes are enough to learn the sudoku logic without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Kids and beginners — the smaller grid makes pattern recognition more immediate.
  • Quick rounds — if you only have a couple of minutes and want to warm up.

Once you've mastered the 4×4, the natural next step is the 6×6 mini sudoku, a halfway point toward the classic 9×9.
