Roman Numeral Sudoku

This variant is the classic 9×9 sudoku where digits 1 through 9 are replaced with the Roman numerals I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX. The rules don't change: every row, column and 3×3 block must contain each symbol exactly once.

What changes from the classic

  • The logic is identical to classic sudoku: notes, eliminations, X-Wing, Hidden Pairs — everything applies exactly the same way.
  • Only the rendering of the digits changes. Reading "VIII" instead of "8" forces the brain to translate before reasoning, making the experience more meditative.
  • To enter a number use the 1–9 keyboard or tap the pad: the value displays as a Roman numeral, but the underlying logic stays integer-based.

Who it's for

Players who want to slow down their automatic visual recognition and approach each move with a moment of extra thought. Also a nice way to get comfortable reading Roman numerals without stepping away from sudoku.

Have fun!
